Digital Heritage Storytelling in Practice: A Two-Day Applied Workshop

Conference Access: Workshop participants will receive complimentary access to attend the Digital Futures for Cultural Heritage International Conference (28–30 May 2026).

Overview:
This two-day, practice-based workshop focuses on documenting and communicating cultural heritage through digital storytelling. Using mobile media and accessible digital tools, participants will develop practical skills in filming, recording, editing, and narrative construction. The workshop runs alongside the Digital Futures for Cultural Heritage conference and is designed as a skills-focused extension of its themes.

EOIs are welcome from:

  • Undergraduate students
  • Postgraduate students and early-career researchers
  • Academics and educators
  • Cultural practitioners, museum and heritage staff
  • NGO professionals and independent creatives

What You Will Learn
Day 1 – Foundations of Digital Heritage Storytelling

  • Ethical approaches to cultural documentation
  • Mobile filming and field recording skills
  • Story development and short-form narrative planning

Day 2 – Editing, Presentation, and Application

  • Editing tools and narrative structuring techniques
  • Reviewing raw footage and refining your digital story
  • Presenting work-in-progress for peer feedback
  • Receiving a certificate of participation

Expression of Interest (EOI) – What to Include
Please submit a 200–300 word EOI including:

  1. Brief background
    Your current status (e.g. undergraduate student, postgraduate, practitioner) and institutional or professional affiliation, if any.
  2. Interest in the workshop
    Why you would like to participate and how it relates to your studies, research, or practice.
  3. Relevant experience or skills (if any)
    For example, work in media, heritage, community projects, or digital practice. Prior experience is not required.
  4. Expectations and learning goals
    What you hope to gain from the workshop.
