Hello, and a very warm welcome to the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS) at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China. Please take time to explore these pages and discover the programmes we offer, the academic staff who teach, and the cutting-edge research we do.
First, what do we teach? Our programmes – at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral level - in International Studies (mixing International Politics and History), International Communications, Education, English, and Economics will help you make sense of the world, understand the problems we face, and equip you with the knowledge and critical skills to contribute to their solution. By combining your chosen programme with a language – you can choose to learn French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, or Korean – you will be in a unique position to appreciate the cultural complexity of the modern world; and you will have the opportunity to practice your new language skills during your time in UNNC. With the highest proportion of international students in the University, FHSS offers you a truly global experience. Our students have the opportunity to spend from one semester to up to two years of their four years degrees at another Nottingham University campus, either in the UK or in Malaysia. Alternatively, you could choose to spend time in one of our many international partner institutions through our participation in the U21 group of world leading universities.
Who will teach you? The Faculty is lucky to attract experts from around the world, all of whom are active researchers. We are pushing the boundaries of our subjects, shaping and reshaping the disciplines, and making sure that our teaching is informed by our research. Many are involved in international projects, while some lend their expertise to those involved in making real life decisions. In short, our research has direct relevance to the world around us. Perhaps most important, all my colleagues are dedicated teachers who place the individual student experience at the heart of all they do in the University.
What can you do with a degree in Humanities and Social Sciences? Our graduates enter a wide range of careers that value the kind of student who is curious about the world and seeks to understand and engage with it. It is important to know that you will receive the same degree certificate as any University of Nottingham graduate; and, given that Nottingham is consistently ranked in the top 100 Universities in the world, our graduates are very attractive to employers. We are proud that over 65% of our undergraduate students choose to continue with their education and enter postgraduate programmes in the world’s top universities. Many go on to do PhDs and become the next generation of academic researchers and teachers.
Interested? After looking through our website, why not come and visit us at an Open Day or talk with colleagues who can give you more information and advice? We are happy to help you make the decision that is right for you.
FHSS is a unique Faculty within a unique University. Why not join us and together we will take a step into the future?
