Vision
The Mixed Reality Lab (MRL) at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China is dedicated to advancing our understanding of the co-existence of the physical and virtual worlds. As an innovation hub, the MRL acts as a focal point for interdisciplinary research, bridging disciplines, cultures, and the interaction between humans and technology. Our core mission is to explore and expand the frontiers of knowledge in an increasingly digital global landscape.
Objectives
- Advance Understanding: Deepen insights into the integration and interaction of the physical and virtual realms, and between humans and technology.
- Transformative Research: Foster innovation and transformative research across varied disciplines and cultures, enhancing our capability to address complex global challenges.
- Technological Empowerment: Utilize high-performance, GPU-accelerated technology to power research and industrial applications, driving forward scientific and creative endeavors.
- Knowledge Dissemination: Advocate for the exploration, investigation, and sharing of knowledge across diverse disciplines and domains.
- Cultivation of Talent: Train a new generation of interdisciplinary researchers equipped to navigate and innovate across cultural and disciplinary boundaries.
The team
Our team is skilled in developing scalable big data architectures and immersive technologies, including virtual and mixed reality interfaces. These tools are crucial for transforming raw data into meaningful, comprehensible formats that enhance human understanding and interaction with digital information.
Integration with the Digital Heritage Centre: The MRL aligns closely with the goals of the Digital Heritage Centre, particularly in the preservation and digital representation of cultural heritage. By leveraging our expertise in virtual and augmented reality, 3D mapping, and other advanced digital tools, the MRL supports the DHC's objectives to make cultural heritage accessible and engaging globally. Together, the MRL and DHC foster international collaborations, promote academic excellence, and contribute to the preservation of both tangible and intangible cultural assets through innovative digital interventions.
This synergy ensures that traditional art forms and cultural narratives are not only preserved but are also appreciated and understood through the lens of cutting-edge technology, preparing them for appreciation by future generations.
