Tuesday 26 April 12.30-2pm, IEB122 / online

Research featuring important environmental issues and their solutions is an important part of UNNC’s Sustainability strategy. One of the most crucial of these areas is how to tackle climate change, or global heating as it is now called to emphasize the urgency of action. Many of our academics and their PGR students are involved in such research, exploring how UNNC and the rest of the world could lower their carbon footprint.

This seminar features a selection of such researchers and their work.  Their short talks are thematically related and work up to the question of if it is possible to make UNNC carbon neutral by 2030 or 2060.

All three speakers are currently active researchers in FOSE. Quhan Chen is looking into ways to use captured CO2 to re-enter the value chain and replace ‘fresh’ fossil fuel derived carbon. Chaoju Wang explores the potential of academe and industry working together effectively to solve the big problems. And Chengxi Wang is looking at our very own campus as a low carbon transition case study.

This is not a conventional seminar for fellow researchers in a similar discipline only. Everybody is invited and welcome. It is especially aimed at people who are not in a natural science or technology major, but interested to find out what the research community there is working on. All speakers will keep their talks at non-expert level and explain the motivations and hoped outcomes of their work in layman’s terms.

After the talks the researchers are greatly looking forward to discussing global heating, low carbon technology and their research – past, current and future – with a diverse group of participant.
