On 17 May 2019, University of Nottingham signed a framework agreement with the Ningbo municipal government, setting out a commitment to establish the Beacons of Excellence Innovation Institute at University of Nottingham Ningbo China. The new institute and associated programmes will be focusing on the three key areas of Intelligent Manufacturing, Green Chemicals and Energy, and Life Science & Health Care. The Institute is to promote key international technological and innovative resources, and become a world-class innovation platform for the city, where pioneering research results are generated, local solutions delivered, and high-quality talents cultivated.

Nottingham Electrification Centre (NEC)
Nottingham Electrification Centre (NEC) was jointly established by the University of Nottingham UK, University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) and Yuyao "Thousand Talent Plan" Industrial Park. The purpose of the institute is to foster new companies, and to promote the industrialisation of key technologies and development of the electrification industry in Ningbo and China. These specifically include research into advanced electrical drive systems, transport electrification, high performance actuation systems and mechanical and electrical integration.
New Materials Institute (NMI)
University of Nottingham Ningbo, New Materials Institute (NMI) has been jointly established by University of Nottingham (UoN), the Ningbo New Material Technology City and Ningbo Science and Technology Bureau in May 2015. NMI was set up by UoN, fully owned by UNNC and operated as a company in the high-tech zone. NMI aims to conduct innovation research and technology transfer on new materials and provide strong support in terms of talent and intelligence for the development of new materials in UNNC and Ningbo. NMI currently has three research centres: the Centre for Advanced Composite Materials, the Centre for Granular Material and Technology, and the Centre for New Energy and Environmental Material.

The Institute of Asia and Pacific Studies (IAPS) China is The University of Nottingham Ningbo China branch of the
Asia Research Institute UK. Together with
Asia Research Institute Malaysia, the main aims of the institutes are to promote tri-campus and interdisciplinary research collaboration, build world class networks with global researchers and encourage innovative teaching and resource development for both local and international user groups. The Institute prioritizes the
University of Nottingham’s strategic goal to improve sustainability on campus and beyond, in keeping with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Our diverse members all address the key issues of furthering good health and wellbeing, Reducing Inequality, developing sustainable cities and communities and more, so furthering research and knowledge exchange in this area across the region.
University of Nottingham Ningbo China officially launched the Nottingham China Health Institute in 2018, a multidiscipline research body focused on meeting the needs of the rapidly changing 21st century healthcare system in China. The Institute will span the whole spectrum of evidence-base healthcare research and practice from generating evidence, synthesising evidence, assessing the economics of interventions, producing guidelines and implementing change through leadership and management.
