To celebrate World Earth Day on Thursday 22nd April, and to raise awareness about the environmental challenges we are facing today, the Green Festival 2021 working group has put together a week of events focusing on our Earth and natural resources.

Across the week of Monday 19th to Sunday 25th April, you are encouraged to wear green, reduce your purchasing of take-away food, reduce your carbon footprint by eating less meat, and live the 5R (Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rot) lifestyle to show our commitment to Mother Earth.

Please join us in the week of 19th to 25th April 2021, when different themes will be announced for each day, with a variety of fun activities on how to reduce our footprint on the environment!

Below are full details of activities (some with SPDPO) and for further registration information.

In Friday’s session, you will get the opportunity to make your own eco-system with materials provided by us (though you are welcome to add to the basic supplies).  Since it is divided into two sessions, please make sure that you can attend both.

Earth Day - Restore Our Earth Thursday

Event: Movie Session - ‘Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot’ – Earth Day viewing of the original Lorax

All students, staff and families are welcome. We will watch the original TV short film made from Dr Seuss’ Lorax (1972). The book, written in 1971, is almost the same age as Earth Day, and embodies to a large extent how environmentalists felt in those early days. It carries a strong environmental message, but is this still the message for our time? We will discuss what the Lorax told our parents/grandparents/great-grandparents, if they took notice and if we should. Or do we need a new environmental message for very different times? You are welcome to bring your own lunch, but we will also provide light refreshment on request. Please bring your own cup for the drinks.
