Sustainability education

At UNNC, we aim to cultivate next-generation talents with sustainability mindset and skills. We implement sustainability principles in our curriculum and activities across various disciplines, fostering a generation of scholars and professionals who are equipped to address global environmental, social, and economic challenges. 

Sustainability curriculum 

We offer a range of sustainability-focused courses and modules, from environmental science to business sustainability, and encourage students to engage in interdisciplinary projects that bridge science, engineering, humanities, and social sciences, preparing them for the multifaceted challenges of sustainable development.  

• NAA Sustainability Module 

Since 2021, NAA (Nottingham Advantage Award) Sustainability Module has been developed to provide comprehensive knowledge and project-based practice on sustainability-related topics for all UNNC students. This NAA sustainability module aims to equip students with first-hand knowledge and skills on what is the real meaning of sustainability and how to promote with their actions. 

The module is designed to be composed of two sub-modules, Sustainability Assembly module in Autumn semester and Sustainability Project module in Spring Semester, respectively.  

Sustainability assembly

Overview on SDGs and sustainable challenges we are facing, together with various of workshops, guest lectures, board games and company visit on specific sustainability topic for in-depth understanding and discussion.

Sustainability project

Students are encouraged to work in groups on specific sustainability related projects, to promote sustainability thinking and action and really contribute to the sustainable development of our campus or the community. 

Awareness campaigns 

We promote sustainability as a core value within our community, integrating sustainable practices into everyday campus life and encouraging a culture of environmental responsibility. Regular sustainability awareness campaigns and events are held to educate and inspire the campus community to adopt sustainable lifestyles. And we support student-led sustainability projects and societies, providing a platform for students to actively contribute to campus sustainability efforts and gain hands-on experience.

• UNNC Environmental Sustainability Carnival 

As the iconic sustainability event at UNNC, it is designed to engage, inspire, and empower our community to take actions towards a more sustainable future. Since 2021, this event promises a diverse array of activities, workshops, exhibitions, and interactive sessions focused on key themes of sustainability, including waste reduction, energy conservation, biodiversity, and community resilience.
