On March 22, students from the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Nottingham Ningbo visited the Ningbo Center project, a skyscraper designed by SOM Architects and currently under construction by the Shanghai Construction Engineering Corporation. With a height of 409 meters and a total construction area of about 240,000 square meters, Ningbo Center is located in the core area of the Eastern New City and will become the tallest building in Zhejiang Province upon completion.

Accompanied by the project manager from the construction company, the students were given a presentation and a guided tour of the site, learning about the design and construction of the project. After the presentation, the students visited the Ningbo Center construction site. They were able to enter the building under construction and realize things previously drawn on paper in real, three-dimensional space, including the typical beam-column connections, high-rise building steel structures, inner concrete core structure, and novel movable construction systems.

Overall, the visit to Ningbo Center enriched the students' knowledge about steel structure design and green construction methods. The opportunity to observe the construction process up close and ask questions directly to on-site engineers provided students valuable practical insights of the design and construction of high-rise buildings.
