About

The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Nottingham's UK campus was ranked second in England for the quality of its research in the latest Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) and is recognised for its world-class learning environment and international reputation for new knowledge generation. Although our department at UNNC is much younger, we aim to maintain the same high quality of research established at the home campus. We have developed excellent facilities with dedicated laboratories for structures, geotechnics and fluid mechanics, as well as an extensive range of surveying equipment, which are used for both research and teaching purposes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. With plans for a new strong floor facility for major structural testing, our research will cover a wide range of experimental investigations and predictive numerical modelling studies, supported by the latest in computing and laboratory facilities.

All degree courses at Nottingham are modular. Modules are self-contained units of study that generally run for one semester. All undergraduates are offered a wide range of module options both within the department and in other disciplines. This provides a more significant opportunity for students to find areas of interest as well as making them a more rounded graduate for the world of work.

All students have a personal tutor who offers general guidance and support and is linked with practising civil engineers. Teaching focuses on the application of the subject with regards to safety, quality, the economy and the environment.
