About the School of International Studies
The School of International Studies comprises political scientists, experts in International Relations and historians, together with specialists in anthropology, security studies, development, area studies and other fields in the social sciences. Currently the school offers two BA degrees, two MA degrees, and PhD level studies, and our students – many of whom also learn a modern European or Asian language as part of their degree programme – continue to postgraduate level study in some of the world’s top universities. With 15 academic staff members from 13 different countries, the school adopts a multicultural, international, and transnational approach to teaching and research.
Highlights of Teaching and Research
The School of International Studies has entered a period of growth and we are interested in hearing from candidates with expertise and research interests in the above areas. The school also welcomes applications from candidates who can build new teaching and research capacity in applied areas of political science, social and public policy, including but not limited to areas such as global public policy and governance, health policy, public and comparative administration, policy theory and analysis, social policy, innovation and technology policy and big data. We are particularly interested in growing our multidisciplinary projects and welcome applicants who will be able to work with colleagues across the faculty and indeed the university.
General Job Description and Criteria
Candidates must evidence ability to teach core and specialist courses drawing on their applied social science expertise and demonstrate ability to contribute to broader teaching in International Studies, which includes interdisciplinary modules in International Relations, Political Science, History, and area studies. Appointed faculty are expected to take responsibility for maintaining high teaching standards and contribute generally to the development of teaching, teaching methods and assessments.
We also require a clear research strategy that has the potential to result in external grant capture and publication in world-leading publications. Appointed faculty are expected to act as principal investigators on major research projects in their field of expertise and identify opportunities for the development of new research projects. Also expected is an active contribution to the Centre for Advanced International Studies and university key research priorities areas.
