About the School of Economics
The School of Economics at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China is a young and dynamic school, with the aspiration to be one of the leading schools in economics in teaching, research excellence and social impact within the Asia region. The school’s ambition is to become a fully-fledged economics school similar to the top 50 economics schools in the world. The school is affiliated/part of with the School of Economics at the University of Nottingham UK which is well-known for its research excellence in economics and teaching — ranked 5th for research in the United Kingdom and 38th in the world according to Tilburg University’s global ranking of economics schools.
Currently, the School of Economics has 23 full-time staff members and a student population slightly below 900. The school has consistently attracted top students from the Chinese national-wide entry examination to join its undergraduate programs. 87 per cent of our undergraduates in 2021/22 proceed to further their studies in top-tier international universities. The school is looking to expand its programme at the postgraduate level similar to those offered by top economics schools. Currently, the school has an MSc in Finance and Investment (Economics, Money and Finance) programme and a PhD programme. Our PhD students after graduating went on to hold academic positions at Northwestern University, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, University of Groningen and Zhejiang University.
Research at the School of Economics is vibrant, with our dynamic and collegial team actively engaging in research in most economics areas and interdisciplinary areas. Highlights of Teaching and Research
The School of Economics at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China has entered a period of growth in terms of research activities and students’ numbers. We are looking for talented scholars to join us. We are interested in hearing from candidates who can grow with the school and have a flair for research and teaching.
Applications are open for all levels (Assistant Professor to Professor level) with research focusing on health economics, labour economics, behavioural economics, macroeconomics, microeconomics, industrial organization, or econometrics. Applicants at the senior levels should have a record of outstanding research and teaching. Applicants at the junior level should demonstrate their ability to teach and research.
General Job Description and Criteria
The successful candidate will maintain high standards of teaching, and contribute generally to the development of teaching, teaching methods and assessment in the school. They are expected to convene modules of their area of expertise and lecture in any of the core areas of economics (i.e. Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Econometrics). The candidate is expected to supervise dissertations at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Associate professors and above are expected to take a leading role in PhD supervision.
