NUsearch upgrade - 2 September 2025
Everything you need to know about the upcoming NUsearch upgrade - including what to do if you have Saved searches and Saved records.
About the upgrade
The upgraded version of NUsearch will be live for UNNC on 2 September 2025. Explore what is new in the system and the action you need to take to restore your Saved searches.
There is a risk of downtime throughout the day on Tuesday 2 September for NUsearch.
Changes to NUsearch
Whilst many of the changes have taken place behind the scenes, there are several changes you will see when searching for items and managing your library account:
- New design
- Real time updates to resources. Your searches will always show the most up-to-date results, and new digital materials will be available straight away.
- Improvements to item records and filters
- Research Assistant AI tool
- Reading List search
Changes to journals search
The new version of NUsearch now allows you to search inside journals for your keywords, improving discoverability of information.
Changes to permalinks
Permalink addresses to items will be changed in the new system. Redirects are in place but we recommend checking any permalinks you may have stored locally or added to teaching or research materials.
Changes to your library account - including action required for retaining Saved searches and Saved records
All saved information in your Library Account and Favourites will be migrated over to the new version of NUsearch, however, any Saved searches and Search history will not be transferred. Saved records will be fully transferred only a few days or weeks after the upgrade. To avoid any inconvenience, we recommend saving a copy of your Saved searches and Saved records in current NUsearch before the upgrade.
Saved searches – action recommended
If you use the Saved searches feature in current NUsearch and would like to keep a record of your Saved searches, we recommend taking a screenshot or copying them into a document by Monday, 1 September 2025. This will allow you to recreate them in the new system when it becomes available. To record your Saved searches, please:
- Log in to current NUsearch
- Click on your name in the header
- Select ‘Saved items’ and then select the ‘Saved searches’ tab.
- Review your Saved searches and take a note / screenshot of those that you wish to keep. You can copy and paste the search terms into a Word document or similar.
Saved records – action recommended
If you use the Saved records feature in current NUsearch and would like to keep a record of these, we recommend saving a copy of your Saved records by Monday, 1 September 2025, so you can refer to your Saved records in a document before the Saved records are fully transferred to the new system a few days or weeks after the upgrade.
- Log in to current NUsearch
- Click on your name in the header
- Select ‘Saved items’ and then select the ‘Saved records’ tab.
- Select the records in the tab that you want to export.
- Click on ’Export options’ to select the desired option (e.g., ‘Export to Excel’) and format.
I saved a copy of my Saved searches before the upgrade and need to know how to add them in the new version
To recreate your Saved searches in the new version after the upgrade:
- Log in to NUsearch
- For each search you would like to recreate, enter the search terms into the NUsearch search box and hit enter or click the magnifying glass icon.
- Select the 'Save query' option at the top of the search results to save each search.
- If you would like to receive email notifications for your Saved searches, select ‘Turn on notification for this query’.
