UNNC now has several academic and professional staff from a range of faculties and departments who are trained in teaching mindfulness techniques.
Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way: On purpose, in the present moment and non-judgementally.
Mindfulness can help you:
-
- Feel less overwhelmed
- Manage anxiety and reduce stress
- Improve your sleep quality
- Increase your ability to manage difficult situations
- Have greater clarity
- Have more (self-)compassion
- Increase your efficiency and creativity
People can practice mindfulness while doing any daily activity. The people who find it most helpful are those who practice it regularly. It is unlikely to be helpful if you only try it once or twice because it takes practice. Occasionally people find creating space through meditation allows emotions to rise to the surface unexpectedly. For the beginners, it is recommended learning mindfulness from someone who has a personal practice and has taught mindfulness before.
