Research Bio

My doctoral thesis research revolves around representations of contemporary female experience, in particular sexuality, in South Korean cinema and television. I am especially interested in the relations between forms of neo-liberal feminist thought and patriarchal ideals of femininity as examined through the discourse of genre hybridisation. My other academic pursuits involve examination of gender in East and South East Asian cinematographies, fandom cultures and analysis of recent South Korean popular culture trends.
