In 2021, the reUNNC club launched a FreeCycling initiative, which was renamed to FreeLoop in 2025. This program fosters a culture of sustainability on campus by turning everyday actions into meaningful environmental solutions.
FreeLoop is built on three key elements. First, the reUNNC club organizes events where UNNCers can bring their old items—such as clothing, accessories, small household goods, and books—to swap them for something new-to-them. Alternatively, participants can simply come to an event and give a new home to items left by others.
The second part of this initiative is the creation of FreeLoop Islands (乐循岛)– several designated spots on campus where people can drop off their unused items. This allows UNNCers to find second-hand treasures instead of buying new things. It also provides a sustainable alternative to throwing away lightly used items, e.g., freebies from online sellers, by giving them a new life with someone who needs them. There are several FreeLoop Islands across campus. Use the map below to discover them.

Finally, for students leaving campus for the summer or after graduation, reUNNC offers a convenient donation drive. They can bring their pre-loved items, including small furniture, to a designated FreeLoop summer storage place. All donated goods are then offered to new students during Induction Week, helping them settle in while promoting a circular economy on campus.
