Pubs and bars
Many international styled pubs and bars reside in an area called Laowaitan, Ningbo's 'Old Bund'. Laowaitan is an area of Ningbo situated next to the river, offering international cafes, restaurants and bars. The cobbled streets are frequently occupied by students and Ningbo’s expat community.
Amongst others, The Shamrock Pub and Office Bar often show sport such as English Premier League football and La Liga. They’re also good for a game of pool, a drink, or some bar food. Studio and Bass Clef provide live music options here, whilst Le Cargo or Wonderland are often the last stops of the night for some dancing.
For a relaxed and up-market night in Laowaitan, try Constellation Bar, an American styled cocktail bar with staff dressed with bow ties and white gloves.
Across the river from Laowaitan, Heyi Avenue provides a good alternative for an evening out. As well as having international cafe and restaurants, Heyi Avenue has a number of bars set alongside Ningbo's dancing fountains. Munich Brewery holds a decking by the river, whilst the likes of Dada Lounge invite DJ’s to play themed music evenings, house music among their favourites.
Locally, around a ten minute walk from the University, is Ningbo City Business District. This architecturally stunning area houses restaurants, bars and coffee shops. It's a nice place to spend an evening sitting by the river and also close enough to walk home.
Outside seating at a number of locations during warmer temperatures, makes for a perfect evening.
There are two popular bars for live music, both located in Laowaitan. Bass Clef has acoustic sets most days of the week, whilst Studio has a regular Filipino band.
In addition to the bars and smaller style clubs located in Laowaitan and Heyi Avenue, Ningbo possesses a club scene with the likes of TNT, A8 and Victoria Fashion Club favourite destinations. These are popular with Ningbo’s younger generation and are good options for some dance music.
Popular amongst both our Chinese and International students, is KTV. Karaoke TV consists of a group of friends renting a lounge space, having drinks and snacks whilst blasting out karaoke. There aren’t many street corners in Ningbo where you won’t find a KTV!
