From 22 July to 13 August, UNNC EMI Teacher Training for Zhejiang Chinese Medical University Programm, supported by the CELE, was successfully concluded. 36 teachers participate in the training.
The EMI Teacher Training
The EMI Teacher Training is designed by the University of Nottingham Ningbo China(UNNC) specifically for full-time teachers who use English as Medium of Instruction. Through group interactive discussions, case studies, after-class tasks, and individual guidance within the group, a 3-week combined online and offline systematic study was conducted to improve the teaching ability and English level of full-time teachers.
Training Review
Opening Ceremony
At the opening ceremony, Peter Beech, Senior Tutor in Professional Education and Training, introduced the teaching advantages of UNNC in international talent training, and expressed his warm welcome to the all-English teaching teachers of Zhejiang Chinese Medicine University.
Cameron Dong, executive Dean of International Education College (IEC) made a speech before the training. He stressed that he hoped that through this training, teachers can learn to master international innovative thinking, improve teaching skills, and continue to feed scientific research and medical work through teaching; Colleagues can exchange and analyze ideas and experience, learn from each other and help each other to make progress together.
Dougal Macbeth, English for Special Purposes Team Leader, introduced the course arrangement of this training program. The UNNC EMI Teacher Training provided by UNNC consists of a combination of synchronous and asynchronous activities, including interactive group discussion, case studies, take-home tasks, tutorials for smaller groups. Trainer will also evaluate the participants and give feedback on their reflection tasks, demo lessens and portfolio to ensure the effectiveness of the training.
Course content
This training adopts the method of online and offline teaching. Offline course 26 hours, online course 6 hours, a total of 36 hours.
Offline Courses
This EMI Teacher Training implements small-class teaching and is divided into two simultaneous classes. The curriculum is rich in content, including: Language awareness; Philosophy and
principles of EMI teaching; Key challenges for EMI teachers and students; Mindfulness for Teaching and Learning; Developing intercultural competence; Presentation skills; Principles of learning and teaching; Constructivism and active learning.
Online courses
The online courses include: the main characteristics of an effective classroom, the goals and objectives of all-English teaching, teaching feedback, assessment and evaluation, and teaching strategies for subject and language courses.
Closing Ceremony
On 13 August, the closing ceremony for UNNC EMI Teacher Training for Zhejiang Chinese Medical University Programme was held. Peter Beech and Gina Wang, Deputy Director of the International Relations Office of Zhejiang Chinese Medicine University attended the closing ceremony and delivered a speech.
