The goals of carbon peak and carbon neutrality, which China has raised recently, are not only a technical issue nor a solely energy or climate environment issue, but also a broad and complex economic and social issue, which will have a significant impact on future development. At present, there is a shortage of "double carbon" talents in China, a large number of professionals need to be trained to fit in the new roles in the field of energy, transportation and finance.
In collaboration with the Business Development Office (BDO), the Department of Architecture and Built Environment (ABE) successfully delivered the first Carbon Neutrality Talent Training in China. The training under the title of 'International Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality Talent Professional Capability Development Training Programme’ (In Chinese: 国际化“双碳”人才职业能力提升研修班培训项目) was delivered by four ABE staff members. The sessions were delivered by Dr. Linjun Xie, Dr. Zhiang Zhang, and Dr. Tongyu Zhou.
This double carbon talent training program was recently launched under the urban and rural construction plans. The two-day training covered an excellent range of sessions and attracted around 500 online participants. The training was developed in collaboration with two main organisers, 'China Construction Technology Co.’ and ‘China International Talent Exchange Foundation’. The ABE Department was grateful to deliver this high-level training for practitioners,researchers/academics, and professionals in multiple sectors.
