CeDEX China Successfully Concludes Two Summer Schools

02 July 2025

CeDEx China at the School of Economics, University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) has successfully concluded its two Economics Summer Schools: Mathematical Economics & Financial Econometrics and Experimental and Behavioural Economics. Held from 2 to 20 June 2025, these intensive programmes attracted around 50 participants from both within UNNC and beyond. The three-week summer schools provided students with the opportunity to engage in advanced economic research, focusing on the application of theory to real-world economic challenges. The programmes are designed to offer a balance of rigorous academic instruction and hands-on practical experience.

The Mathematical Economics & Financial Econometrics Summer School, running since 2018, aims to enhance students’ expertise in mathematical and econometric methods commonly applied in economics and finance.

Luming Huang, a second-year Economics student, described the programme as "an immensely valuable academic journey" and noted its focus on theoretical and practical aspects, such as econometrics and software like Stata and R. "The course helped consolidate my existing knowledge and set the stage for advanced study," she added.

Another participant, Enqi Yang, also a second-year Economics student, praised the programme's accessible teaching, highlighting the support provided by lecturers and teaching assistants. "The experience significantly improved my logical reasoning and helped me approach problems from multiple perspectives," Enqi explained.

The Experimental and Behavioural Economics Summer School provided students with the opportunity to learn about core theories in experimental and behavioural economics. The intensive 15-day programme encouraged participants to design and conduct their own experiments, covering everything from hypothesis formulation to data analysis.

The hands-on approach aimed to strengthen participants' research skills and deepen their understanding of economic behaviour through practical application.

Both summer schools concluded with positive feedback from students, who commended the programme’s rigorous academic content and the dedication of the teaching staff.

CeDEx China extends its thanks to all the lecturers, teaching assistants, and students who contributed to the success of this year’s summer schools. See you next summer!
