Laws and responsibility

Once your visa is granted, please check the following:

  • Visa Duration: Note the validity period, including when you can enter China and the expiry date.
  • Work Restrictions: Be aware that student visas do not permit you to work or undertake internships in China.

Your immigration responsibilities

As a holder of a student visa, you have specific responsibilities while in China, as outlined in the Exit and Entry Administration Law of the People's Republic of China. It is crucial to understand and comply with these responsibilities as a condition of your stay. Failure to do so may result in suspension or withdrawal from your course and could affect your immigration status.

Key responsibilities
  • Documentation: Provide the university with your passport, visa, and entry stamp for record-keeping, including any new passport or visa obtained during your studies.
  • Contact Information: Keep your contact details in China updated via NottinghamHub, including any changes to your address.
  • Course Registration: Register for your course on time each academic year. •Academic Engagement: Maintain good attendance and engagement in your course, ensuring that you make expected academic progress with no significant gaps or absences.
  • University Procedures: Follow university processes if you decide to defer or suspend your studies, transfer to a new course, extend your study period, or withdraw from your course.

Please note that the student residence permit must be canceled upon graduation, termination of studies, withdrawal, absence for an entire academic year, transfer to another institution, participation in a 2+2 program in the UK, or a change to part-time study status.
