The Department of Architecture and Built Environment focuses on interdisciplinary teaching and research in the fields of architectural design and building technology. It offers advanced undergraduate courses in these professional disciplines.

The studio spaces in the Science and Engineering Building (SEB) serve as the principal area for undergraduate teaching in architecture. The department works with the Centre for Sustainable Energy Technologies (CSET) to carry out high-quality research in renewable and sustainable technologies.

The CSET building, which is the first carbon-zero building in China, has been designed to serve as an exemplar building, demonstrating state-of-the-art techniques for environmentally responsible and sustainable construction. The overall mission of the Centre is to provide solutions to problems arising from sustainability issues relating to the environment, engineering and technology and thus supporting continuing endeavours to improve the ecology.

The department operates in collaboration with the University of Nottingham, UK. The Department of Architecture and Built Environment in the UK is a leading centre for teaching in architecture, urban design and sustainable energy technologies with 140 years of expertise.

The teaching approach at the University of Nottingham Ningbo, China (UNNC) is shaped and informed by the University of Nottingham, UK. Our degrees run parallel to degrees offered at Nottingham and are subject to the same quality assurance processes. Students graduate with University of Nottingham degrees, whether they complete their programmes at our department in the UK or China.

Studying in the Department of Architecture and Built Environment at the UNNC means you will directly engage with the educational values of research-led teaching, and international environment and quality teaching spaces.
