Transform Healthcare in China and Beyond
The Smart Medicine Laboratory at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) is an interdisciplinary research hub dedicated to advancing intelligent healthcare and digital medicine. Established through collaboration between academia, healthcare institutions, and industry partners, the lab pioneers the integration of artificial intelligence, wearable sensing, and data analytics into home- and community-based healthcare systems. Its mission is to transform conventional hospital-centered models into proactive, technology-enabled health management ecosystems.
The laboratory brings together experts across data science, economics, medicine, and public health. Guided by Prof. Stuart McDonald (Director) and supported by Prof. Vladimir Brusic and Dr. Jun Xia as scientific and clinical advisors, the lab’s multidisciplinary team-including postdoctoral researchers and doctoral candidates-focuses on key areas such as AI-driven diagnostics, remote physiological monitoring, blockchain-based data security, and healthcare economics.
Aligned with China’s “Healthy China 2030” strategy and the global movement toward digital health transformation, the Smart Medicine Laboratory is committed to developing evidence-based, accessible, and patient-centered solutions. Through innovation, collaboration, and translational research, the lab aims to redefine the future of intelligent healthcare and improve health outcomes worldwide.
