Welcome to Centre for Health Economics

Launched in September 2018, the Centre for Health Economics (CHE) is a research hub housed within the School of Economics at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China. As health economics emerges as a critical field driven by the evolving needs of healthcare providers, payers, and government agencies, CHE serves as a focal point for academic excellence and policy-relevant research in the region.

Statement of Purpose

The primary purpose of CHE is to provide a collaborative platform for health economists, both within China and internationally, to exchange innovative ideas and develop rigorous research. The Centre seeks to address the "unknowns" of the modern healthcare landscape—exploring optimal healthcare systems, payment models, incentive structures, hospital management strategies, and the complexities of chronic disease management. By bridging the gap between theory and practice, the Centre aims to build the professional capacity necessary to fulfill the growing demands of the health sector in China and worldwide.

Mission

The mission of the Centre for Health Economics is to become a leading authority on health sector economics and policy within China. This mission is pursued through three key pillars of activity:

  • Scientific Research: Conducting high-impact research on health economics and related health sciences to inform evidence-based policy.
  • Global Collaboration: Establishing a robust research network with Chinese and international universities through annual conferences, specialized workshops, and the publication of working paper series.
  • Local Integration: Working in close partnership with regional health institutions, such as Ningbo First Hospital and Ningbo’s Centre for Disease Control (CDC), to ensure research remains grounded in practical, local health challenges.
