Courses & Activities
English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course is developed by the core teaching team of the Centre of English Language Education (CELE), providing the same level of expertise as offered to preliminary students at UNNC. Classes are concentrated in the morning to lay a foundation for studying in English, while also supporting the learning of content modules in the afternoon. Students will develop new reading strategies, learn how to give an excellent university presentation and improve the standard of their academic writing.
Small-group teaching model: The EAP course generally consists of 18-20 students per class, allowing teachers to closely monitor each student's learning progress and provide more effective guidance and feedback.
AI+ content modules by faculties
Amid the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence (AI), scientists and professors from the three faculties of UNNC are driving the transformation and application of AI across diverse research domains. We have meticulously developed a "AI+ Content Modules" curriculum system to break down interdisciplinary barriers:

Rooted in UNNC’s robust research foundation and global network, this curriculum blends global expertise with real-world scenarios to cultivate trailblazers with AI literacy and interdisciplinary practical skills. Join us to explore new disciplinary frontiers with AI and co-create the future.
Future planning
UNNC Summer School offers two valuable programmes to support students’ career and academic development:
- High-quality industry mentor sessions, where certified trainers, corporate executives and entrepreneurs guide participants in future planning and self-exploration, in line with UNNC’s focus on liberal arts education and students’ multi-dimensional growth;
- Alumni sharing sessions, which leverage UNNC’s impressive graduate achievements—including 38 offers from the University of Cambridge for 2024/25 (topping mainland Chinese universities and ranking 31st globally) and over 80% of undergraduates entering the world’s top 50 universities—to connect attendees with outstanding alumni and prestigious school offer holders for in-depth face-to-face exchanges.
UNNC campus experience
UNNC Summer School boasts a superb learning and living environment featuring a 144-acre campus with cutting-edge facilities and modern accommodation, with most activities held in the Lord Dearing Building (DB) that provides public amenities like printers, water dispensers and vending machines on the ground floor; participants will also get the chance to visit the UNNC x Alibaba Cloud Digital Future Lab—a key AI innovation partnership base equipped with advanced tools such as VR & AR devices, motion capture suits, Apple Vision Pro and Tobii eye trackers, which drives the university’s research and teaching innovation; in addition, the world-class Li Dak Sum-Yip Yio Chin-Kenneth Li Library, spanning nearly 25,000 square meters and blending humanities, arts and technology, offers abundant resources including about 1.18 million printed and electronic books, some 50,000 kinds of journals and over 330 electronic databases, along with diverse functional spaces like dual-screen research computer rooms and assistive technology reading rooms, ideal for summer school students’ independent study and group collaboration.
Extracurricular activities
UNNC Summer School combines vibrant extracurricular experiences with immersive cultural exploration: it offers a diverse array of sports and team-building activities—including beach volleyball, dance, wrestling, circuit training, boxing and yoga (and more possibilities)—to help students challenge themselves, build friendships and foster team spirit, with a special team-building night at the start to facilitate quick integration among participants from home and abroad; meanwhile, the summer school takes advantage of Ningbo’s dual appeal of time-honored heritage and maritime spirit, guiding students to explore iconic cultural sites to experience the city’s historical depth firsthand; additionally, it features an intangible cultural heritage handicraft workshop, where students can engage in hands-on creation of local heritage crafts, uncover the cultural stories behind them, enriching their British-style learning journey with authentic cultural elements.

The content is strongly integrated with AI topics and closely aligned with contemporary social trends.
- Empower your competence: You will fully enhance the core skills and personal competitiveness required for university study. Upon completion, you will receive a certificate and letters of recommendation as evidence of your academic accomplishments and potential.
- Develop your self-confidence: Spending two weeks in an immersive English environment, you will become more well-rounded, confident, and comfortable working across cultures.
- Make new friends: You will meet like-minded peers from across China. Through team building, sports tasters, and a variety of other engaging activities, you can join them in vibrant experiences and share the energy and resonance of youth together.
Upon finishing the summer school program, participants will be awarded a Certificate of Completion issued by the University of Nottingham Ningbo China, recognizing their dedication and progress achieved. In addition to the certificate, UNNC will provide each participant with a Letter of Recommendation. The summer school experience not only strengthens students' confidence and intellectual curiosity but also enhances their competitiveness in gaining admission to renowned universities abroad.
