Dr Chung Hon Dak visited the University of Nottingham Ningbo China

Dr Chung Hon Dak, a kind donor and supporter of the University of Nottingham Ningbo China, recently paid a visit to our Ningbo campus at the beginning of the month.


Dr Chung is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Wan Du Group Limited, the Chairman of the Chung Hon Dak Foundation, and the Chairman of the Zhou Guang Zhao Foundation. As well as this, Dr Chung is also a Committee of the 10th CPPCC of Hunan Province, the President of the Hong Kong Hunan Chamber of Commerce, and a well-known philanthropist. He is the recipient of many awards, including: Honorary University Fellows of the University of Hong Kong, Honorary Doctor of Laws of the University of Nottingham, and Honorary Doctor of Beijing Normal University.

Since the establishment of UNNC, Dr Chung Hon Dak and his wife, Lee Ko, have generously supported the mission, construction and development of the university. Providing funding for the establishment of the Kin-Kwok Chung Institute for Global Finance, Lee Ko Institute for Sustainable Development, and the Lesotho Scholarship and Chung Hon Dak Scholarship, their donations have exceeded RMB 20 million, benefitting several generations of UNNC teachers and students.

During the meeting, UNNC leaders warmly welcomed Dr Chung and expressed their gratitude for his support. UNNC leaders in attendance included Professor Wu Tao, Vice President of UNNC and Dean of the UNNC Faculty of Science and Engineering, Chief Financial and Planning Officer Mr Thomas Murphy, Professor Alain Chong, Dean of the UNNC Graduate School and Global Engagement, Professor Kok Wei Khong, Dean of the Nottingham University Business School (China) as well as Professor Guoping Cao and Ms Lily Ma of the University of Nottingham Shanghai Office, and Dr Jianqing Zeng who accompanied Dr Chung on the day.

Ms Min Rose, Director of Knowledge Exchange and Ms Lei He, Interim Director of the Development and Alumni Relations Office, accompanied Dr Chung to the Li Dak Sum Incubator, where they were able to visit three diverse companies who tenant the residence: Ningbo NoEE e-Propulsion Co.,Ltd., Yikun Sports, and Ningbo Bugge Brand Marketing Planning CO.LTD.

Mr James Birkett, UNNC Registrar, and Ms Lei He provided a report on how Dr Chung’s kind donations have been thus far, and the benefits to UNNC staff and students alike, as well as the wider global community. James expressed his gratitude for Dr Chung's generosity and discussed future opportunities for cooperation, inviting Dr Chung to keep in touch with the university on its journey of continued development.
