About the Speaker:
Dr Yan Zhang founded Ningbo Exciton Technology Co., Ltd in 2007, the first company in the Chinese mainland specialising in the research and development, manufacture and sales of optical films. In 2016, Exciton was successfully listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange GEM.
As the Chairman and CEO of Exciton, Dr Zhang has led the company in penetrating the optical film market dominated by multinational companies for decades and filled important industry gaps in China. Under his leadership, Exciton has become the leading innovative company in the Chinese optical film industry in scale, market share, and R&D capabilities. Dr Zhang has also contributed significantly to recruiting, nurturing, and retaining high-level talents in the industry. He is an experienced mentor and investor to many young entrepreneurs and high-tech startups in relevant industries. Given his significant contribution, Dr Yan Zhang has received numerous honorary titles, such as National Distinguished Expert, Zhejiang Leading Entrepreneur, Ningbo’s Outstanding Talent, etc.
Between 2003 and 2007, Dr Yan Zhang held senior management roles in GE China Technology Center and Honeywell International. Before stepping into the industry, Dr Zhang obtained his bachelor's degree from Xi’an Jiaotong University, his master’s degree from Xi’an Jiaotong University with joint supervision from the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and his PhD degree from the National University of Singapore, and conducted post-doc research there.
