The 2024 CNAIS-UNNC Paper Development Workshop will be held in the Nottingham University Business School China (NUBS China) on 11 July, 2024. The workshop will invite prestigious scholars and editors of top journals in Information Systems and related fields, and participants will have the opportunity to obtain invaluable feedback from the workshop panel on their research projects and manuscripts.

This workshop provides a unique forum for researchers in Information Systems and related fields to gain valuable feedback and insights from esteemed scholars and top journal editors. Specifically, workshop participants will have the opportunities to:

  • Present their ongoing research projects and manuscripts;
  • Receive constructive feedback from a distinguished panel of journal editors;
  • Network with fellow researchers;
  • Gain new perspectives through inspiring keynote addresses delivered by Editor-in-Chief of Information Systems Research;

Suprateek Sarker

 

Suprateek Sarker currently serves as the Rolls-Royce Commonwealth Commerce Professor (Information Technology) at the McIntire School of Commerce, University of Virginia. He is also a Visiting Professor at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and an Honorary Professor at the Business School of the University of Sydney, Australia. Additionally, he is the recipient of the 2023 White Broome Award. Prof. Sarker holds positions on the editorial boards of several leading academic journals, including Information Systems Research (currently as the Editor-in-Chief) and the Journal of MIS (as a member of the board of editors). Furthermore, he serves as an Editorial Advisory Board member for journals such as Information & Organization, Information Technology & People, Decision Support Systems, AIS Transactions on HCI, Pacific Asia Journal of the Association for Information Systems, and the International Journal of Information Management. He has previously served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the AIS and the Journal of Information Technology Case and Application Research, as well as a Senior Editor of MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, and the Decision Sciences Journal. Atreyi Kankanhalli

 

Atreyi Kankanhalli is the Provost's Chair Professor in the Department of Information Systems and Analytics, School of Computing at the National University of Singapore (NUS). She has been the Coordinator of the Service Systems Innovation Research Laboratory at NUS. She regularly serves on programme committees and chairs tracks for conferences such as ICIS, AoM, PACIS, ICEGOV and ICKM. She serves or has served on the editorial boards of prestigious journals including Information Systems Research (Senior Editor, Associate Editor), MIS Quarterly (Senior Editor, Associate Editor), Journal of AIS (Senior Editor), IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Government Information Quarterly, and Information and Management (Associate Editor), among others. She conducts research in the areas of online communities, digital collaboration, human-AI collaboration, digital transformation in Healthcare, and open innovation, with a range of organizations sponsored by government and industry grants. Chee Wei (David) Phang

 

Chee Wei (David) Phang currently serves as the Head of the Department of Entrepreneurship, Marketing, and Management Systems, as well as a Professor in Marketing and Information Systems at the University of Nottingham, Ningbo, China. Additionally, he holds the positions of Associate Editor for Information & Management and Journal of the Association for Information Systems (JAIS), and the Editorial Review Board Member of Information Systems Research (ISR). Prof. Phang's research interests include mobile commerce, social media, and the societal impact of information technology. His works have been published in esteemed journals such as Management Science, MIS Quarterly (MISQ), Information Systems Research (ISR), Journal of Marketing, Journal of Management Information Systems (JMIS), Journal of the Association for Information Systems, and Communications of the ACM, among others.

Chee-Wee Tan

 

Chee-Wee Tan is a Professor at the Department of Management and Marketing in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). Prof. Tan is holding, or has held, Honorary and Guest Professorship positions at Lingnan University (LNU), Monash University Malaysia (MUM), the University of New South Wales (UNSW), the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC), the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), and the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society. Additionally, Prof. Tan has a Senior Editor for MISQ, Chee-Wee has served or is currently serving on the editorial boards for ACM Distributed Ledger Technologies: Research and Practice (DLT), DSS, EJIS, Industrial Management & Data Systems (IMDS), IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management (IEEE-TEM), Information & Management (I&M), Information Systems Journal (ISJ), Internet Research (IntR), Journal for the Association of Information Systems (JAIS), Journal of Computer Information Systems (JCIS), Journal of Management Analytics (JMA), Journal of Management Information Systems (JMIS), and MIS Quarterly (MISQ). Choon-Ling Sia

 

Choon-Ling Sia is a Professor at the City University of Hong Kong, AIS Fellow (2015) and the Director of Center of Social Media Marketing and Business Intelligence at the City University of Hong Kong. He is serving, or has served, on the editorial boards of MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Journal of the AIS, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Journal of Global Information Management, Information and Management, and Journal of Database Management. Christy M.K. Cheung

 

Christy M.K. Cheung is the Chair Professor in Information Systems and Digital Innovation Management, as well as the Director of the Research Office at Hong Kong Baptist University. She is the awardee of RGC Senior Research Fellow. She received the “Best Reviewer” in the Journal of Association of Information Systems in 2020. She has also served in many different Senior Editor and Associate Editor roles for several major IS journals, Information Systems Journal, Information Systems Research, Journal of Association Information Systems, and others. Her research areas include Responsible Use of IT, It and User Behaviors and IT and Societal Implications. She has published over 200 refereed articles in international journals and conference proceedings, including Information Systems Research, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of the Association for Information Systems, MIS Quarterly, and among others.

Chuan-Hoo Tan

 

Chuan-Hoo Tan is an Associate Professor (tenured) and deputy head (research and administration) in the Department of Information Systems and Analytics, School of Computing at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Chuan Hoo is also a vital member of the NUS Project Prioritization Committee. Chuan Hoo is the recipient of the INFORMS ISS Design Science Award (2013), the MIS Quarterly Outstanding Associate Editor Award (2016), the Journal of AIS Best Reviewer Award (2016), the Journal of AIS Reviewer Hall of Fame, among others. He serves or has served on the editorial boards of leading journals, including Information Systems Research (Associate Editor), MIS Quarterly (Associate Editor), Journal of AIS (editorial board member), and IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management (editorial board member), among others. His research interests are (1) the digital economy and (2) the digitalization and future of work. Jason Bennett Thatcher

Jason Bennett Thatcher holds the Tandean Rustandy Esteemed Professorship at the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado-Boulder. He is also a Full Professor of Management Science at the Alliance Manchester Business School at the University of Manchester and an Honorary Professor at the University of Nottingham. He received the College of Business and Behavioral Science's 2008 Undergraduate Teaching Excellence Award at Clemson University. He is or has served in senior editor and associate editor roles for several journals, Including Information Systems Research, Journal of the Association for Information Systems MIS Quarterly, Decision Sciences, AIS Transactions on HCI, Associate Editor at Information Systems Research, Database for Advances of Information Systems. Jason studies individual decision-making, strategic alignment, and workforce issues related to the effective use of information technology in organizations. His more recent projects have focused on cybersecurity, social media, and digital upper echelons. Jason has published in journals such as MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Journal of Applied Psychology, Harvard Business Review, and others. 

Juliana Sutanto

Juliana Sutanto is a Professor in Information Systems at the Monash University. She is a recipient of Informs ISS Design Science Award on privacy-safe design. She was an Associate Editor in MIS Quarterly, and is currently a Senior Editor in Journal of the Association for Information Systems. Her research interests include systems design, user behavior analysis, and data management. Her research has been published in leading information systems journals, MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Journal of the Association for Information Systems, and Journal of Management Information Systems.

Xin (Robert) Luo

Xin (Robert) Luo is the Endowed Dean’s Professor of Research Excellence and tenured Black, Albert & Mary Jane Full Professor of Management Information Systems at the University of New Mexico. He also serves as the Special Assistant to the Dean for Research Advancement and the Director of International Programs at the Anderson School of Management. He now is a Co-Editor in Chief for International Journal of Accounting and Information Management, ad-hoc Associate Editor for MIS Quarterly, Associate Editor for Journal of the Association for Information Systems, Decision Sciences, European Journal of Information Systems, Information & Management, Electronic Commerce Research, Journal of Electronic Commerce Research, Journal of Intellectual Capital, and International Conference on Information Systems. His research interests center around behavioral information systems security management, privacy protection, E-commerce/M-commerce, social commerce, innovative technologies (e.g., blockchain, artificial intelligence vs. human interactions, cloud computing, green IS, e-healthcare, social network, etc.) for strategic decision-making and development, and cross-cultural IT management. Paper Submission

Eligibility of Submission 

The workshop is open to scholars at all levels, and we especially encourage early-career scholars (PhD students, postdocs, and assistant professors) to attend. 

Types of Submissions

Early-stage research 

  • To be eligible for participation in the upcoming feedback session, all participants are required to submit a single PDF file that includes (a) their extended abstract (up to 1,000 words) , and (b) an optional one-page description of specific issue(s) on which they would like feedback at the workshop, (c) the resume of the first author or the participating author.
  • Within each group, a designated senior scholar will oversee two to three scholars as a mentor. Each participant is allotted approximately 20 minutes to present their research idea along with the initial design and outcomes. The mentor will provide verbal feedback to each of the presenters. 

Advanced-stage research 

  • Authors are to submit a single PDF file that includes (a) their paper, which should be no more than 30 pages total length (double-spaced 12-point font; including references, tables, and figures), and (b) an optional one-page description of specific issue(s) on which they would like feedback at the workshop, (c) the resume of the first author or the participating author. Submissions exceeding the stipulated page length would be automatically rejected.
  • In each group, a mentor will oversee two to three papers. The authors of each paper will use 20 minutes or so to present their draft research paper with results. The mentor will offer verbal feedback each of the presenters.
