26 February 2026

On the afternoon of February 26, 2026, the Graduate School of the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) successfully held the 2026 Spring New PGR Student Induction for PhD and Research Master’s students. This welcome event was designed to help new students integrate into the campus more quickly, adapt to the rhythm of research, and embark on a fulfilling and rewarding academic journey at UNNC.

Professor Giampaolo Buttichi, Interim Vice Provost for Research and Knowledge Exchange at UNNC introduced the university’s research resources, the functions of the Graduate School, and the outcomes of doctoral training. He encouraged students to enjoy the research process and pursue personal growth and also engaged in a Q&A session with the new students.

Subsequently, Graduate School staff delivered presentations on different topics for the new students. First, Ms. Theresa Zhang clearly outlined the full-cycle information for research postgraduate students (master’s and PhD) and gave a live demonstration of the BPM system operation.

Dr. Jia Luo introduced the PGR training system, which aims to consolidate academic foundations, enhance research capabilities, expand frontier perspectives, and support teaching development, comprehensively facilitating students’ growth and innovation.

Finally, Ms. Tina Zhang reviewed and previewed the exciting events held by the Graduate School, encouraging everyone to participate actively and gain a rich and colourful learning experience.

These included the PGR Navigation Oasis series, which is a flagship event series by the UNNC Graduate School. Designed to enrich your research journey, this monthly event series offers a variety of activities such as academic, wellness, and sports & cultural events in a relaxed and engaging setting. They will navigate you to an Oasis that serves as your ideal retreat—a place to recharge, connect, and find your own balance during your research life.

The event was held in a warm and lively atmosphere. Students raised questions and exchanged views actively on key topics such as GTA training and supervisory relationships, creating strong and positive interactions.

Afterwards, the Graduate School also held an induction for new students of the Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) program. It briefly introduced the overall situation of the program and the training requirements and invited senior students from previous cohorts to share their learning experiences and exchange views on issues of concern to the new students.

Yue Wu, a newly admitted PhD student in Politics and History who has received a full scholarship from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences shared, “Returning to UNNC to continue my studies is a great blessing for me. Once again, I felt the warm and welcoming atmosphere at the induction session. Professor Buttichi and other teachers carefully explained to us new PhD students how to manage the supervisor-student relationship and plan our academic career. At the beginning of my enrolment, I was quite confused about issues such as the graduation process. However, after the teachers patiently answered each question during the induction session, all my doubts were smoothly resolved.”

This event aimed to help new students better understand UNNC’s research environment, academic resources and training system, and fully prepare them for their upcoming research studies. We wish every new student a successful and fruitful academic journey!
