February 2024 New PGR Welcome Events Review

04 March 2024

As of 4 March, UNNC welcomed 74 postgraduate research (PGR) students for the February 2024 intake. Of these, 51 have registered with the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FoSE), 15 with Nottingham University Business School China (NUBS China), and 8 with the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS). We are delighted to have such a talented and diverse group of students joining us!

To help our new PGR students settle in, we organized a series of welcome events.

On 21 February, Graduate School arranged an induction session for the newly registered PGR students. The session provided a comprehensive overview of Graduate School and its resources, as well as an introduction to the various support services available to PGR students.

New PGR Welcome Lunch

In addition to these induction sessions, we also organized a Welcome Lunch for our new PGR students.

The Welcome Lunch was a fantastic opportunity for them to meet and network with their peers, as well as faculty and staff members from across the university. The atmosphere was welcoming and friendly, and the lunch provided a great opportunity for students to get to know each other and to begin building a sense of community.

Pursuing a Ph.D. at UNNC was a goal I set for myself upon completing my undergraduate studies. That is why I chose to continue with my postgraduate studies here. UNNC’s vibrant academic atmosphere, its open and inclusive campus culture, and the strong support of the faculty all reinforced my decision. I feel incredibly fortunate to have met my supervisor, Yueyue Zhang, and to have become one of her students. Returning to campus three months after graduation, I’m filled with a sense of excitement and solid confidence, eager to embark on a new chapter of my academic journey here!

Guiyuan LI, PhD Strategy, NUBS China

From the moment I joined UNNC in 2022, I knew for sure that the one-year MA programme would be far from enough for me. The beautiful campus, the modern and resourceful library, the learning experience of a truly international university not far from home, and all my supportive professors…the list goes on. They have not only helped me develop myself and complete the MA degree, but have also paved the way for me to continue in Academia. It’s good to be back! As a PhD student, life is going to be completely different. I’m grateful for the warm support of Graduate School, starting from the admission process. By communicating promptly and providing all the necessary tools for our research, it is obvious that UNNC highly values the work of its PGRs. Together with the expertise of many amazing world-class scholars, I feel very confident to freely explore the academic world and grow strong in my own research area. Doing a PhD is not easy. But we value it because it’s hard. I thank UNNC for giving me this opportunity, and please allow me to express my deepest gratitude to our beloved late President Yang Fujia for creating such a wonderful university.
