UNNC held 2020 summer graduation ceremonies at the D.H. Lawrence Auditorium from 1-2 July, 2020.
This year's graduation ceremonies were very special -- due to the impact of COVID-19, UNNC decided to organize the graduation ceremony online to enable family members to witness and share the joy of the ceremony with their children.
We were pleased to witness and share the happiness of the graduation of 18 Postgraduate Research (PGR) Students: 4 from FHSS, 5 from FOB, and 8 from FoSE (2 MRes students). Congratulations to you all!

Messages from Graduates
"I live in Hangzhou but I grew up in Ningbo, after completing my Master degree in Hangzhou, I would like to pursue further a research degree. My family and friends recommended me to apply for a PhD in University of Nottingham Ningbo China. I learnt information about UNNC and thought it would be a great place for me to do the PhD programme in my hometown. My supervisor played a vital role in my research journey and always encouraged me when I was struggling or facing some difficulties as a part time PhD. I will keep working at my job as a researcher in the future. I regret my family cannot attend the ceremony, but they will watch it online and we will celebrate after the ceremony." - from Tianle YANG, FOB
"Through my doctoral journey, what impressed me most was the publication of my papers. I felt my confidence soar and I felt a sense of achievement after my research papers were published. My supervisor was very serious and responsible, and other teachers also gave me a lot of help. The whole process of my doctoral study went smoothly. I like the environment and academic atmosphere of UNNC and I am sure I will continue to do academic work at UNNC in the future." - from Tianlun FEI, FOB
"This year's graduation ceremony is special - no parents and friends allowed to participant in. I think such an arrangement is also meaningful, which symbolizes that newly graduates have to stand upon the ground on your own feet to explore and advanture your own destiny. There is no one cheers you up, you have to face your own highlights, or unpleasant moments by yourself, and encourge yourself. Experiencing such a graduation ceremony makes me impressed.
I have read an article about the psychological curve of doctoral candidates, which starts with high morale, and then gradually climbs up. After reaching a peak, it begins to collapse, or starts to sink, and finally recovers to peace. I probably went through a low ebb stage last year. Due to the worries about my research and future career, I began to be anxious and impetuous. Fortunately, I had many years work experience and the knowledge and ability to reconcile the negative emotions. So, I did some self-adjustment in time through ways like doing physical exercise, reading books and travelling around. This spiritual journey I have experienced during my PhD career is critical for cultivating the peace power of my mentality, and is the most valuable memories I will cherish for the rest of my life." - from Zhengyin YANG, FOB
"In my graduation ceremony, when I took photos with Professor Feng and my former students, I feel like I am inheriting education and UNNC provides this marvellous platform to me. I really appreciate this opportunity for continuous learning in UNNC and receiving British-style education in China." - from Xiaoming SHI, FHSS
"During my doctoral study, I have also experienced some difficulties. At the beginning, my research topic was about 3D mapping, but the acquisition of data was very difficult, and I had struggled for half a year. Finally, I decided to change my research topic to indoor positioning. It was a difficult process, but I was glad to find a new research direction that I was interested in. Now I have found my academic passion and I may still take an academic path in the future. "- from Jingjing YAN, FOSE
