Graduate School invites a certain number of outstanding professors from universities worldwide to give informative lectures and workshops on academic research and career planning. This series aims to provide our PhD students the access to scholars with a high degree of expertise, as well as the opportunity to better understand research methods and achieve productive outcomes.

Workshop Information

Correlation or Causation? Research Design for Causal Inference

Overview: This workshop focuses on how to design robust research to reveal “cause and effect” relationships. It provides an overview of causality and covers main methodologies for causal inference. It also includes an application example with multiple methods employed. The goal of the workshop is to help participants improve their own research design to approach empirical questions.

Speaker Bio

Dr. Anqi (Angie) Wu is an assistant professor of Information System and Business Analytics at Florida International University, College of Business. Her research focuses on applying data-intensive analysis to approach societal problems. The overall goal of her research is to discover ways in which government agencies and public organizations can be more successful in their efforts toward increasing social welfare.

Dr. Wu received Ph.D. in Business Administration from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Gies College of Business. She earned a master’s degree in Business Analytics from Rensselaer Polytechnic University and a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Zhejiang University of Technology, China. She also had industry experience before joining her Ph.D. program.
