    PGR Event | September Highlights

Tea session + Movie night

Work-life balance

On 23rd September, a tea session that revolved around ‘work-life balance’ was organized, where three speakers were invited to introduce their different approaches to achieving harmony between work and life, sharing their own unique experiences and exchanging ideas on this topic. This provided our PGR students a great opportunity to catch up more with their PGR peers and unwind at the end of a busy week.

In addition to the tea session, a movie screening was also held. Participants enjoyed watching the movie Up in the Air and had a really great time.

Friendly Basketball Team

UNNC PGR VS ZJU

On 25th September, the UNNC PGR basketball team had a friendly basketball game with the team from Zhejiang University Ningbo Innovation Center. After a simple warm-up exercise, the game started at 11:00 am. The Dean of the Graduate School and Global Engagement, Professor Alain Chong, also participated in this game.

The UNNC PGR basketball team was established in March 2021. Currently, there are twenty-two team members: captains Yatai Ji and Vasyl Varvolik, eighteen players and two managers.

Each quarter of the game was very intense. In the first quarter, players from both teams performed impressively and there was not a big gap in the scores. The UNNC PGR team defended well in the second half and made smooth transitions to offense; Yannis from the UNNC basketball team scored several beautiful three-pointers. At the end of the game, the UNNC PGR team won by a narrow margin of several points. All the players enjoyed their time. Not only sports skills but also good relations have been built up.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Session

Upcoming event

A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) introductory session is to be organized on 19th October.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, is a martial art that is based on grappling and ground fighting, focusing on controlling an opponent using techniques that force him or her into submission. It is a combat sport that is key to mixed martial arts fighting and systematic self-defence. The uniqueness of BJJ lies in making full use of our body as a human lever, rather than the use of sheer brute strength. BJJ practitioners use techniques and skills to make opponents yield or exhaust them of their physical strength, eventually submitting them. BJJ is designed to enable a smaller, weaker person to overcome a bigger, stronger opponent. Since size doesn't matter, we believe that BJJ is for everyone.
