Reviewing the 2022 Student Competition Development Fund Project

In May 2021, UNNC Education Foundation initiated the funding applications for all UNNC faculties and departments. After evaluation by the Research and Knowledge Exchange Committee, the Student Life Committee and the Teaching and Learning Committee, a total of six new projects were approved and granted funding. These new projects will support various student social activities and events, which will increase student engagement and enrich campus life. Today, as the fourth article of New Funded Charitable Projects Introduction Series, we’re going to review the 2022 Student Competition Development Project.
The University of Nottingham Ningbo China Education Foundation has been committed to supporting the university talent development. Noticing the trend of incorporating innovation and entrepreneurship courses and training into the University curriculum, required by the Chinese Ministry of Education, Education Foundation provides fund to UNNC to build up a supporting mechanism to unlock the potential of students to engage in a multiple level of competitions. So far couple of UNNC students have already attended several provincial and national competitions and obtained great prizes in the previous years. To continually strengthen the competitiveness of UNNC students in contests, the Department of Campus Life founded the Student Competition Development Fund to support the three Faculties, aiming at initiating an efficient management system in supporting student competition development, from policy making to award setting, and from administrative support to academic resources providing. The purpose of facilitating this project is mainly to rearrange and reallocate the existing resources and to create and develop a positive and supportive institutional environment for student competition development.
Competitions hold by FOSE
1. Formula Student Racing
This competition was founded in 2018 by UNNC’s Dr. Dunant Halim, with the aim to encourage UNNC students to improve their ability in technology innovation by designing the vehicles involved in Formula racing. In 2021, UNNC’s team participated in the Formula Student China Competition and won the 3rd prize in the National final of the race.
2. Red spot competition
In total, 15 projects entered the final round of judging for the red spot competition, including STABILIS, CORALY, and Lefree. Currently, all groups are preparing for the competition by improving their existing design schemes.
3. RoboMaster
As an international counter-strike-style robot competition, RoboMaster is the sub-competition of the National Robot Competition for university students. The RoboMaster competition has attracted attention from a range of global universities, high-tech enterprises and technology enthusiasts. In 2022, UNNC Robomaster team passed the UNNC fighting rounds and participated in the China Region Competition for the first time, winning the third prize in Xiamen. The next step for our UNNC RoboMaster team will be participating in the league competition in Jiangsu this September.
Competitions hold by NUBS (China)
1. UNNC Entrepreneurship & Innovation Competition
This competition is UNNC’s preliminary contest for the “Challenge Cup” China College Student Entrepreneurship and Innovation Competition. The competition was completed in May 2022. There was one grant prize winner, who will compete in the provincial competition. The competition also gave one first prize, one second prize and three outstanding performance prizes.
2. "Challenge Cup" College Student Entrepreneurship and Innovation Competition
“Challenge Cup” College Student Entrepreneurship and Innovation Competition: This competition is a national college student extracurricular scientific and cultural activity competition, which aims to cultivate innovation consciousness and to inspire students’ creative thinking. The competition also targets the enhancement of creative ability and the cultivation of entrepreneurial talent. The project ended in June 2022, with one project team was shortlisted for the provincial competition.
3. "Internet+" College Student Entrepreneurship & Innovation Competition
“Internet+” College Student Entrepreneurship and Innovation Competition: This competition is co-sponsored by the Ministry of Education and government departments as well as domestic universities. It aims to stimulate the college students’ creativity and promote the formation of the new "Internet +" business model, and facilitate higher-quality entrepreneurship and employment for university graduates. At present, the application for registration has now ended, and the selection is expected to start in the autumn semester.
Competitions hold by FHSS
1. The 3rd UNNC Interpreting Competition
This competition was held by FHSS, with the aim to encourage students to continually improve their English language ability and interpreting skills. The competition was divided into three stages: preliminary, semi-final, and final. More than 50 people signed up for the preliminary contest, with one first-prize winner, two second-prize winners and three third-prize winners awarded at the end of the competition.
2. 2022 National English Competition for College Students
2022 National English Competition for College Students: this competition aims to increase the interest in and improve proficiency of university students’ English, and encouraging excellent performance in the language. The first round of the competition has been already taken place, and two students will go on to the final stage in Hangzhou next semester.
