Biography

After completing my teacher training I taught English as a foreign language in the UK post compulsory sector for several years. I worked in London Adult Education and Further Education colleges teaching EFL, ESOL, numeracy and literacy. Beyond Britain I have also enjoyed living in Cyprus and Egypt. I came to China for the first time in 2015 and I joined the UNNC in 2021.

Beyond work, I have a strong interest in visual art and have exhibited sculpture in group and solo shows.  In recent years I have continued my practice by painting and drawing whenever possible.

Teaching

I currently teach EAP to Preliminary Year students on RWAC, ESAC and OCS courses.

Research interests

During my postgraduate studies I conducted research on collaborative learning in second language classrooms. In the area of EAP I instigated a research project with the aim of assisting repeating students through the use of learning plans.  Recently, I have been interested in classroom approaches to the collaborative teaching of argumentative essays.
