Biography

I have taught English for academic purposes for eleven years in China, Turkey, and South Korea, designing and delivering courses on general academic writing, creative writing, and technical report writing. I was a literature and rhetoric student while at university, and this has helped develop my focus on teaching writing. I’m interested in both ‘writing across the curriculum’ and ‘writing in the disciplines’ approaches to teaching writing, as well as genre in academic discourse.

Teaching

I have taught preliminary year courses for the Centre for English Language Education; however, my primary teaching focus is in-sessional English language and academic skills provision through the Writing Lab for undergraduate and postgraduate students. My main pedagogical interests are finding ways to improve students’ academic performance through their use of self-access and writing centres, particularly in internationalized higher education contexts, strengthening UNNC's discourse communities, and process-based writing.

Research interests

My research foci are higher educational policy, writing centre histories, teaching and learning regimes, and evaluation in higher educational contexts.
