Longevity Temple Cultural Park and Yongshou Street by Wenwen ZHANG, FHSS

Ahead of the Chinese New Year holidays, an online event was organized in order to celebrate the seasonal break and welcome 2024 among the UNNC postgraduate research (PGR) community. PGR students were encouraged to share their winter break experiences and cherished moments by submitting PLOGS (photo blog).

"Longevity Temple Cultural Park has another meaningful name, called Chengwu Yuan (乘物园). It is said to be one of the sanctuaries of the Xiaokang king Zhao Gou. Being immersed in this peaceful park gives me a placid feeling and I enjoy the quiet moments and beautiful scenes.

Yongshou Street is the Ningbo historical and cultural protection block. The atmosphere is real and simple. Like the architecture, Yongshou Street witness a rich history. During the Chinese New Year of Loong, many nice decorations are hanging along this street, giving me a sense of happiness. Moreover, my friends and I took photos here and came across four kind girls and we six took pictures of each other using three cameras. This is one of my precious memories.

The scenery of the mountaintop in Bai Shi Xian Ping is spectacular and splendid. I can overlook the magnificent view of Dongqian Lake and high-rise buildings of Ningbo. I extremely enjoy the fresh air and wonderful scenery here. It reminds me of that poem, looking down from the summit, all the other mountains are small."

Chinese New Year with Family - by Shuyi WONG, FoSE

"On the first day of Chinese New Year, it is a tradition in my family to have a tea ceremony, whereby children will firstly bless our parents and offer them a cup of tea. In return, parents will give children red packets and utter a prayer of blessing.

Chinese New Year is a great time to gather with most of our close relatives. We spend some time singing hymns, giving thanks, blessing and praying for one another. The sumptuous family reunion meal is not to be missed.

A memorable highlight this year would be a retreat to Kokol Hill with my family. It was nice to get away to a cool and peaceful atmosphere where we can enjoy the scenic view of Kota Kinabalu city. The quality time with family is definitely priceless."
