CeDEx China RA Chuni Miao Speaks at UNNC Graduation

Chuni Miao, a 2026 Economics graduate and former research assistant at CeDEx China, delivered a speech as the graduate representative at the 2026 UNNC Summer Graduation Ceremony. In her speech, Chuni reflected on setbacks, identity, curiosity, and social responsibility, encouraging her peers to speak courageously and turn gratitude into action.

During her time at CeDEx China, Chuni contributed to research activities and gained valuable experience in experimental and behavioural economics. Her experience at CeDEx further strengthened her interest in data-driven research and applied analytics. She will continue her studies at London Business School, where she will pursue the Master in Analytics and Management. CeDEx China is proud to have been part of Chuni’s academic journey and wishes her every success in her next chapter.

2026 Summer School in Mathematical Economics & Financial Econometrics concludes successfully

CeDEx China successfully concluded the 2026 Summer School in Mathematical Economics & Financial Econometrics, held from 15 June to 3 July. The three-week programme brought together students primarily from the School of Economics, alongside participants from Nottingham University Business School China, to strengthen their quantitative foundations for further study and career development in economics, finance and related fields.

School of Economics hosts 5th CeDEx China & 4th CHE Joint Conference 2026

The School of Economics at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China hosted the 5th CeDEx China & 4th CHE Joint Conference on 24–25 June 2026, bringing together more than 100 scholars and participants from leading institutions in China and around the world.

Held under the theme “Behaviour, Experiments, and Health”, the two-day conference was co-organised by CeDEx China, CHE and the Camphor Economics Circle. Participants came from a wide range of institutions, including QS World University Rankings top 100 universities such as Yale University, the University of Toronto, the University of Warwick and the University of Nottingham, as well as Tulane University and others.

CeDEx China will organise a half-day workshop on Discrete Mathematics, Game Theory and Optimisation on Wednesday, 17 June 2026, at IEB 458.

The workshop will feature talks by three researchers on topics including streaming algorithms for submodular optimization, welfare-maximising mechanisms for public goods provision, and frameworks for managing complex mathematical reasoning.

Dr Xuewen Qian's Recent Publication in the Journal of Mathematical Economics
Dr Xuewen Qian has published a paper titled "Conditional Hypothesis Testing Systems" in the Journal of Mathematical Economics.

The paper introduces Conditional Hypothesis Testing Systems (CHTS) to model non-Bayesian reactions to unexpected news. Dr Qian also demonstrates that the CHTS updating rule is order-independent, ensuring the sequence of information doesn’t affect the final outcome.

Dr Marcus Roel Reveals New Insights on Decision-Making in Social Dilemmas
A new study led by Dr Marcus Roel, published in the upcoming issue of Games and Economic Behavior, finds that the way people are asked to make decisions affects their choices in scenarios pertaining to fairness and cooperation. Based on an online experiment with over 8,000 participants, Dr Roel demonstrates that the "strategy method" reduces mistakes without altering fundamental preferences for fairness. This finding offers researchers a way to conduct less costly and more reliable experiments, paving the way for clearer insights into human decision-making.
