Catriona Morrison 500x500

Thank you for your interest in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS), at University of Nottingham Ningbo China.

We are keen to attract colleagues who are committed to delivering excellent teaching and contributing to the student experience both inside and outside the classroom; who are research active and interested in helping the Faculty develop its interdisciplinary research culture; and who will participate in, and grow, the Faculty’ s outreach to the local community, nationally and on a global platform. We look forward to engaging with you and welcoming you to UNNC.

Professor Catriona Morrison
Dean of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

The faculty comprises four schools – Economics, Education and English, International Communications and International Studies – and the Language Centre, delivering modern European and Asian languages to students across the university. With 2000 students (at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels) and 110 staff from 22 countries, the faculty is committed to delivering world class teaching and research, with a growing focus on interdisciplinary projects. We encourage our students to be curious and creative critical thinkers, and skilled in intercultural communication. We are proud that majority of our graduates continue to study at postgraduate level in the world’s top universities before embarking on successful careers in business, finance, education, journalism, the arts, and education. FHSS is committed to offering the best student experience, including developing innovative ways of delivering teaching and assessing students’ performance.

Members of the faculty publish their research in the leading international journals in their fields and with major presses, often in collaboration with other schools, faculties, and with colleagues at Nottingham’s campuses in the UK and Malaysia. FHSS is home to a number of ground-breaking projects including digital heritage, game cultures, the historical and contemporary ‘Silk Roads’, health economics, cognitive neuroscience of language, and gender studies. We are growing our research income, working with external partners in industry, museums, education, and the arts, and via our Lifelong Learning project we are forming exciting collaborations with the local community.

“The students are a joy to teach. They’re a very special group; they’ve selected UNNC because they want to learn foreign languages and have international experiences, and most go on to study abroad either on exchange or for future MA degrees. They are very attentive and eager to learn; plus, sometimes they ask really tough questions, so they keep me on my toes!”
