The University of Bristol was founded in 1876 and was the first higher education institute in England to admit women on an equal basis to men. It was granted its Royal Charter and university status in 1909. Today the University is one of the most popular and highly ranked universities in the UK, with a diverse community of over 30,000 talented students from more than 140 countries. Ranked one of the UK’s top ten universities (QS World University Rankings 2025) and also ranked 5th for research (THE analysis of REF 2021), you will experience outstanding teaching shaped by our cutting-edge research, and learn from academics at the forefront of their fields.

Study Abroad students receive a student experience like no other, delivered by Bristol Inbound’s dedicated Student Experience team. Each semester, they organise an exciting programme of free and subsidised activities that go beyond the classroom. From bespoke academic workshops to social events and accompanied trips around Bristol and nearby cities — they focus on connecting students, building confidence, and helping them to make the most of every moment abroad.

Studying abroad also builds skills that enhance future career prospects. With the University’s free Bristol PLUS Award — an employability award endorsed by leading UK employers — Study Abroad students can reflect on and showcase the valuable skills they gain, helping them stand out in a competitive job market.
