06 April 2020
We are pleased to announce Deepesh Jayasekara, the DTP scholarship holder (DTP student at UNNC and Ningbo Institute of Materials Tecnology &Engineering, CAS), got the runner-up and Sen Yang (UNNC) also successfully entered the final entries in the U21/PwC Innovation Challenge competition 2019/20.
Deepesh Jayasekara(UNNC), Sen Yang (UNNC), Alice Konta (UNUK) and Francois Seys(UNUK) have been recommended to represent the University of Nottingham in this global online competition in the Tri-campus competition by the tri-campus judging panel. We are so glad to see Andrea Alice Konta (UNUK) and Deepesh C. Jayasekara(UNNC), got the runners-up in the final competition.
The competition attracted 44 entries from 17 universities in the U21 network; all 44 entrants have been awarded online careers training from PwC and the 10 entries shortlisted as finalists will be given both online careers training and mentoring.
In the 2019/20 competition PwC challenged students to respond to the following question: ‘How can universities help individuals gain a broader perspective on the long-term impact and consequences of their day-to-day actions on people, society and the environment? What types of jobs will an environmentally-sensitive economy need, and what is the best way to prepare students for them?'. Entrants then each produced a three-minute video in which they presented their answer to the question.
I feel proud to represent the University of Nottingham at the global stage. Also, it was a privilege to compete against the best 44 contestants from 17 leading research universities in the world. To be honest, I was elated when I got to know that I was selected to the global top 10 and finally winning the Runners-up. I never thought I would go this far, but here I am. I would like to end with one of my favorite quotes from my childhood, 'Try and try, one day you can fly'.
After attending these activities, there are some tips I would like to share which might be useful to you. First, always have confidence and try to connect with your audience. You may have stage fright. Find a way to overcome it. I believe the best way is to always believe in yourself. Secondly, keep practising until you can make your speech without even thinking about it. Finally, think of these activities as great chances to improve yourself and enjoy it.
