PGR Away Day & Living in China

Ahead of the Chinese New Year holidays, an online event was organized in order to celebrate the seasonal break and welcome 2024 among the UNNC postgraduate research (PGR) community. PGR students were encouraged to share their winter break experiences and cherished moments by submitting PLOGS (photo blog).


Co-organized by Graduate School and Department of Campus Life, the PGR Away Day & Living in China celebrated the Spring Equinox (Chinese: Chun Fen 春分) with a half-day trip for UNNC’s PGR students.

Around 30 students took part in a variety of engaging activities. They enjoyed in traditional Chinese customs such as the egg-standing game and natural plant tie-dye, while also immersing themselves in Song Dynasty-style tea art. The highlight of the day was crafting their own paper kites, adding a touch of creativity to this festive outing.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu session

The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) introductory session offered students a glimpse into this dynamic martial art form.

Focusing on grappling and ground fighting techniques, BJJ emphasizes control of the opponent through strategic maneuvers leading to submission. This introductory session was a gateway to the world of combat sports and systematic self-defense, essential for both mixed martial arts fighting and personal security.

The UNNC 2nd Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) Symposium was a showcase of academic exchange and excellence, bringing together DTP partners and students from Ningbo Institute of Industrial Technology, CAS (CNITECH), Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resource Research, CAS (IGSNRR), and Yongjiang Laboratory, among others.

As part of UNNC’s 20th anniversary celebrations, the symposium featured keynote speeches, DTP student story sharing, poster and oral presentations. Participants took the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions on DTP research projects and programmes, share best practices and ideas on how to nurture future researchers.

This event truly exemplified UNNC’s dedication to fostering international collaboration and cutting-edge research.

Read & Share: The Art of Loving

In honor of World Book Day, UNNC Doctoral Association, in collaboration with Graduate School and The Library, hosted a captivating book-sharing activity centered around Erich Fromm’s classic work, The Art of Loving.

Through structured discussions using ‘The 36 Questions that lead to love,’ participants delved into the profound concepts of love articulated in the book.

The event encouraged deep and thoughtful reflection on the nature and practice of love, and participants worked in groups to create insightful posters reflecting their collective understanding of Fromm’s timeless teachings. Around 25 students, staff and guests took part in the activity and left with fresh ideas and perspectives.

 

These events highlight the diverse and enriching experiences offered at UNNC, fostering a vibrant and inclusive community dedicated to academic excellence and personal growth.
