Call for Papers - Workshop on Developments in Digital Finance, Fintech, and Shadow Banking
19-20 September 2024, Ningbo, China
The digitization of the payments mechanism, and the advance in financial technology promises a revolution in the banking industry. The consequences for the way commercial banks operate, and the relationship with SME borrowers, has implications for the wider process of financial intermediation and ultimately for investment, stability, and growth of the economy. We invite academics and practitioners working around Financial Technology, Bank Digitization, fiscal policy in the digital era, and Shadow Banking” to submit their papers to a conference, which will take place on 19th and 20th September 2024 at Nottingham University Business School, University of Nottingham Ningbo China.
Financial technology (Fintech) and the application of AI promise to enhance financial inclusion and broaden the scope of financial intermediation. The rapid development of the Fintech industry over the last decade has brought along many advantages and challenges to borrowers, investors, and regulatory authorities. Shadow banking has been a vehicle for local government to plug the funding gap in social and infrastructure spending.
The conference aims to discuss both theoretical and empirical questions that deepen our knowledge of credit intermediation, local fiscal policy, shadow banking, market liquidity, and financial market stability. In the two decades of the 21st century, the Chinese economy has assumed a pivotal role in global markets and the developments in Fintech and other shadow banking activity in China has played a significant part in her growth performance. In recent years, shadow banking in China has come under greater scrutiny and regulation, making the examination of the above streams of the finance literature timely and important. While the focus of the conference will be on China, the conference-workshop theme applies to all economies and the organizers welcome wider applications, including local government fiscal policy and taxation in the digital era.
Nottingham University Business School China, Fudan School of Management and Zhongnan University of Economics and Law will host a workshop on the theme of the topic above on 19-20 September 2024. The workshop will be organised as a hybrid event both in-person and online and will take place at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China, in Ningbo.
