Research

Our research covers a wide range of experimental investigations and predictive numerical modelling studies supported by the latest computing and laboratory facilities. While maintaining the high quality of research of our home department at The University of Nottingham in the UK, we are investing in developing excellent facilities and laboratories. We have dedicated labs for structures, geotechnics and fluid mechanics, as well as a wide range of surveying equipment. We will also have a new strong floor facility for major structural testing. The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Nottingham was ranked second in England for the quality of its research in the latest Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) and is recognised for its world-class learning environment and its international reputation for new knowledge generation.

Research areas

Our department offers research opportunities across a diverse range of subjects including:

    • Construction project management
    • Engineering surveying and geodesy
    • Environmental fluid mechanics
    • Geotechnical engineering
    • Structural engineering
    • Transportation engineering

Postgraduate

The department was ranked second in England for the quality of its research in the latest Research Assessment Exercise and is recognised for its world-class learning environment.

We deliver world-class teaching and state-of-the-art research which allow our masters and PhD students to work on projects that contribute to the on-going research in the department.
