PhD Programme of The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC)

The PhD programme offers flexible supervision between UNNC and the University of Nottingham UK (UNUK). Students will be registered at UNNC but depending on the proposed research, students may be required to spend part of their studies at UNUK, normally 1 year. There will be, at least, 2 supervisors for each PhD student, one from UNNC and another from UNUK.

On graduation, students will be awarded a PhD degree by the University of Nottingham UK, fully recognized worldwide. For Chinese students, both degree and Xueli are recognised by the Chinese Ministry of Education.

Scholarships are available for exceptionally talented applicants, normally covering tuition fee, accommodation and living expenses and lasting for 3 years in most cases.

Talented applicants from prestigious universities, with Bachelor's Degree only, can have direct entry into PhD program of Engineering, Economics and Computer Science.

Internships and placements with famous cooperative companies are available for excellent applicants.

Possible teaching assistantships.

UNNC discourages part time applications, except for those who have excellent academic background or related work experience.

The part-time fee will be 50% of the full-time fee per annum.

The fee payable for periods spent at UNUK will be approx. 10% less than the UNUK standard overseas fee.
Entry Requirements
Applicants for PhD programmes are generally required to hold an honours degree at 2:1 level or above (or international equivalent) in an appropriate subject.
Normally, applicants with a degree from a Chinese University should have achieved 80% in combined average score. Holders of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent from selected prestigious universities will be considered. Evidence of relevant personal, professional and educational experience may be taken into consideration.
Students whose first language is not English or their entry qualifications were not obtained from an institution where English is used as the medium of study are required to provide satisfactory evidence of their proficiency in English.

How to Apply
You will need to include the following supporting documents together with your Application Form|:

a research proposal; ( for tips, find from Graduate School)

degree certificates' copies for both Bachelor and Master (for students from Chinese universities, Xueli should be forwarded)

official transcripts showing marks for both Bachelor and Master
-
two references in signed and sealed envelopes; (alternatively referees can email to UNNC)
-
IELTS or TOFEL test score; (no need for native speakers or with degrees obtained in a English speaking country)

a copy of passport (an ID copy for Chinese)
-
four passport sized colour photographs
-
for applications with International Studies, a copy of Master's dissertation or papers published, or a conference paper, should be forwarded
If there are original copies and photocopies of certificates for awards, works and essays, they may also be submitted.
N.B.:

All documents should be in English.

For the applicants' convenience, applications documents can be posted, or scanned, compressed and then emailed.

It's fine that IELTS or TOEFL score is unavailable when applying, but must meet English entry requirement when registered into UNNC.

Before applying, applicants are suggested to contact their potential supervisors to discuss about the research proposal.
The Application Deadline
There is no deadline for receiving applications, however, the admission dates for 2012/2013 academic year are Aug. 29, Oct. 10, 2012 and May 22, 2013.
