7th Annual FoSE PGR Research Showcase: A Feast of Innovation and Exploration
23 June 2025
The 7th Annual FoSE PGR Research Showcase came to a successful close on 17-18 June. This was an academic extravaganza that brought together cutting-edge technology and innovative thinking. Top scholars from around the world and young research talents gathered to discuss industry hotspots, share the latest research findings, and provide new ideas for tackling global challenges. The event attracted over three hundred participants, with 17 guests from eight partner institutions witnessing the power of research and the charm of innovation.
On 17 June, the poster exhibition kicked off the event, with Professor Xiaoling Liu, the Faculty Director of PGR, delivering the opening remarks. One hundred and eighty-seven posters showcased the innovative achievements of PGR students from various disciplines within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. These achievements spanned multiple fields, including energy, environment, artificial intelligence, and materials. From the architectural innovation of large language models to the biosensors for detecting motion sickness, from intelligent control to green sustainable development, every study was a testament to the hard work and wisdom of the researchers. A panel of 19 professional reviewers, composed of academic staff from UNNC and invited external professors, rigorously evaluated the posters. The PGR students engaged in in-depth exchanges with the reviewers. Through face-to-face interactions with experts, they not only received valuable feedback and suggestions but also broadened their research horizons and enhanced their academic communication skills. This increased opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and significantly propelled the progress of academic research.
On 18 June, the second day of the event began with opening remarks from Professor John Zhou, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, who emphasized the importance of academic exchange and invigorated the participants. Subsequently, two invited keynotes were delivered by Professor Haofeng Chen from East China University of Science and Technology and Professor J. Paul Chen from Shenzhen University. Professor Haofeng Chen presented a report titled “Pioneering Lithium-Ion Battery Innovation: The Transformative Power of AI,” which explored how artificial intelligence can drive breakthroughs and innovations in lithium-ion battery technology. Professor J. Paul Chen focused on “Microplastics: detection, risk assessment, and mitigation,” sharing his cutting-edge research and practical experience in the field of microplastic pollution control.
In the six parallel sessions, 41 presentations were delivered successively. Supervisors from the University of Nottingham Ningbo China and partner institutions, as well as doctoral students, showcased their research achievements in fields such as intelligent control, energy optimisation, biosensors, and green electrochemistry. These presentations not only facilitated the collision and exchange of ideas but also enhanced the doctoral students’ ability to express themselves, providing a rich academic feast for the participants.
During the closing ceremony and award presentation in the afternoon of 18 June, 12 students were awarded the Best Poster Award. The winning works not only demonstrated the innovative capabilities and research strength of the PGR students but also reflected their excellence in academic expression and research depth. The awardees received recognition at the closing ceremony, which was not only an acknowledgment of their efforts but also an encouragement and inspiration for young researchers. These 187 posters will be placed in the PMB atrium for one week, welcome to join and witness these outstanding research works!
