On 21st December 2020, UNNC Dream Scholarship, LI YIP Yio Chin Scholarship & Excellent Freshmen Scholarship Award Ceremony was held in Riverside Banquet, LA Hotel. UNNC Vice President, Deputy Party Secretary, Chairman of Education Foundation, Prof. Sam Shen and Deputy Party Secretary, Dr. Jenny Dong attended the ceremony and presented the awards.

Dr. Li Dak Sum and his wife Mrs. Li Yip Yio Chin set up the LI YIP Yio Chin Scholarship to reward outstanding Chinese undergraduate students; President of UNNC, Prof. Fujia Yang has established the Dream Scholarship to award students with outstanding performances in their extracurricular activities and their endeavors to pursue their dreams.

The ceremony began with the chorus singing “The Great Philanthropist” by UNNC Music Society and “Canon in D” by UNNC Orchestra Chamber Team. In 2020, to celebrate the 100-year-old birthday of our important donor, extraordinary entrepreneur, and philanthropist, Dr. Li Dak Sum, the Education Foundation together with UNNC staff, students and professional musicians, has elaborately produced two original songs. The ceremony took “The Great Philanthropist” as the opening music in order to express the university’s sincere birthday wish to Dr. Li Dak Sum and our gratitude for his contribution to the growth and development of UNNC.

Prof. Sam Shen reviewed the crises and challenges since 2020 in opening speech. He pointed out that “The current crisis underscores the importance of critical thinking, academic research, real expertise, and the necessity for decisions to be grounded in facts. In the midst of the reality and the anxiety created by the pandemic, one positive conclusion is clear: education matters”.

Dr. Jenny Dong awarded all the Dream Scholarship winners. Scholarship holder representative Nanxi Pu shared her feeling, she believed that “Dream Scholarship is set to stimulate students’ passions of pursuing dreams, to promote their moral, intellectual and physical development and to encourage for the excellent extracurricular activities.”

Prof. Sam Shen awarded all the LI YIP Yio Chin Scholarship & Excellent Freshmen Scholarship winners. Scholarship holder representative Zeyang Wang shared his experience after joining UNNC: “I had wonderful imagination regarding my university life as well as my future before I came here. And I am happy to say, these expectations are stepping to be the reality. Frankly speaking, this semester is more than fantastic, through which I have acquired not only knowledge but also friendship and unique British education experience”.
