The Human Eye Research Lab
The underlying basis for the lab is that research on human cells and tissue will best reveal the underlying mechanisms of human ocular pathologies. This information can in turn facilitate improved management and treatment of such conditions leading to better patient outcomes. To achieve this, the lab utilizes a range of human systems covering cell lines, organoid generation from induced pluripotent stem cells and tissue culture models.

Centre for Smart Food Research
The Centre for Smart Food Research has borrowed superior research resources from UoN to carry out relevant research in the fields of healthy food, smart diet and smart city, and build a unique interdisciplinary research platform to serve the "Health in Ningbo" project. Its research fields cover precision farming: The livestock farming industry is generally affected by a variety of pathogens, such as bacteria, viruses, and parasites. Owners of livestock farms tend to use antibiotics to prevent largescale outbreaks of livestock diseases, which will lead to overuse and antibiotic resistance of pathogens, resulting in the ultimate failure of antibiotics. The centre is making efforts to develop an accurate new detection method to predict disease outbreaks in livestock farms.

Microbiome Research Group
Welcome to our Microbiome Research Group, where we specialize in precision medicine and microbiology research with a "One Health" approach. Our interdisciplinary team leverages cutting-edge techniques such as Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and innovative drug discovery. Our research explores the intricate relationship between gut microbiome (e.g. gut anaerobes) and host health. By comprehending the interactions between humans, animals, and the environment, we are dedicated to unlocking the full potential of Next Generation Probiotics in promoting gut health and overall well-being. We also explore the vast applications of microbial-derived natural products, especially those derived from the Actinobacteria (Streptomyces). Our research aims to identify and harness the therapeutic properties of these compounds for the development of new pharmaceutical drugs, agricultural solutions, and cosmeceutical products. Acquiring knowledge of the biosynthetic pathways of microbial-derived natural products allows us to optimize production processes and expand their industrial applications. Furthermore, we investigate the symbiotic relationships between environmental microbes and their hosts across diverse ecosystems, including agriculture and aquaculture. By exploring these connections, we aim to develop environmentally friendly solutions for pest control, soil fertility improvement, and aquaculture management. Additionally, we prioritize food surveillance efforts and strive to mitigate the threats posed by foodborne and waterborne pathogens and combat antimicrobial resistance. Join us in shaping the future of healthcare, agriculture, and environmental stewardship through groundbreaking microbiome research with a "One Health" perspective.
