With the approaching of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou,  the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) contributed a lot to the green and intelligent Asian Games Village. Students and teachers of the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FoSE) support it in all aspects, from scientific research that empowers Asian Games products to students and alumni volunteers.

Massage chairs jointly developed by our human-computer interaction research team and the company iRest are used in the Asian Games Village. These are the new generation of shared massage chairs - A801 Massage Planet. It has won the silver award at the 2023 A' Design Awards before and now has also been endorsed by the Asian Games Village.

This research team of the project was led by Professor Xu Sun and consisted of four students who graduated from our Product Design and Manufacture programme, three of whom are currently doctoral students in the UNNC. As the officially designated massage equipment of the Hangzhou Asian Games, the massage chair shows the achievements of university-industry collaboration and innovation of FoSE, UNNC.

Volunteers from different majors and grades also support the Asian Games at the Xiangshan Competition Zone in Ningbo. Xinyi Wang, a student from Computer Science major is very proud of this experience, she said that they delivered passion and confidence through volunteer service. It is not only a valuable experience but an examination of what they have learned. We have 23 volunteers from FoSE participating in this voluntary activity, showing distinguished teamwork ability of FoSE students.

In addition to students, graduates of FoSE are also involved in the event support. Haotian Ma, a graduate of Civil Engineering has a new identity--Ningbo Banbian Mountain Beach Volleyball Centre operation team staff. He said that his study experience at FoSE and the work experience in international trade industry bring him enough confidence and courage to handle voluntary work. This big event is a good opportunity for him to contribute to society and the world.
