Joint Laboratory for Laser Vibration Measurement Launched by UNNC and Shunchuang Optics
09 January 2026
On 8 January, the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) and Zhejiang Shunchuang Intelligent Optics Technology Co., Ltd. inaugurated their jointly established "Nottingham–Shunchuang Laser Vibration Measurement Joint Laboratory."
This partnership aims to deepen collaboration in laser measurement, vibration analysis, and intelligent monitoring, seeking to enhance the technical capability and application breadth of domestic precision instruments through industry-academia-research integration.
The laboratory focuses on advanced laser vibrometry, a non-contact, long-range, and highly sensitive technology. Its equipment supports applications ranging from micro-scale devices like MEMS to large-scale structures such as wind turbine blades, enabling precise health monitoring and dynamic analysis.
This collaboration combines UNNC's academic strength in vibration analysis, structural health monitoring, and algorithm development with Shunchuang Optics' expertise in high-performance hardware and system integration. The partnership has evolved from equipment procurement to co-development, with UNNC researchers directly contributing to the design and optimization of Shunchuang's next-generation vibrometers.
Professor Jian Yang, Director of the Joint Lab, stated that this deep integration aims to develop globally competitive measurement systems for complex engineering needs. Mr Miaojun Wang, General Manager of Shunchuang Optics, emphasised that user feedback from UNNC will be vital for product iteration, helping expand the application of domestic laser vibrometers in high-end manufacturing and infrastructure monitoring.
The Joint Laboratory is set to advance key laser measurement technologies, transfer research outcomes to practical engineering, support the cultivation of skilled engineers, and contribute to national high-end equipment development and infrastructure safety.
