2021 UNNC Education Foundation Charitable Projects Showcase

In recent years, the Education Foundation has been enhancing its business operations in terms of improving the efficiency of projects management and cultivating the philanthropic culture across the University and in the local and international communities.

In 2021, 39 projects and sub-projects were successfully implemented, with a total charitable expenditure of 17.8 million Yuan. All projects were carried out with transparency and efficiency. The number of beneficiaries reached more than 12700. Major projects are: Li Yip Yio Chin Scholarship, Dream Scholarship, President's Award for Outstanding Graduates, Guizhou Dream Scheme, Special Scholarship for Anti-Coronavirus, Tu Haiming Scholarship, Li Dak Sum Innovation Fellowship Fund, Ingenuity Lab, Golden Interns Award, Si Yuan Public Lecture Fund, Li Dak Sum Chair Professorship Fund, Bao Steel Scholarship, BorgWarner Scholarship, High Flyer Scheme, Sellers Silk Road Youth Art Festival Fund, etc. These projects embodied the humanistic care and social responsibility of the University and received wide attention and high praise from the local and international communities.

There are great achievements that are worth mentioning. Led by the project team of Tu Haiming Scholarship, the project’s internship programme led UNNC to win the 2021 China Social Impact Awards for “Community and Culture” organised jointly by the British Chambers of Commerce and the United Nations. The programme also won the European Chambers of Commerce 8th Corporate Social Responsibility Award.

Moreover, Li Dak Sum Innovation Fellowship Fund is also a high achiever. Starting from 2019, the fund has supported 16 research projects. These projects have generated 28 patents, 6 software copyrights, 24 prototypes, and built cooperation with more than 17 partners from industry and academia.

In addition, in the budget planning of the donation funds, the Foundation has also been innovative in supporting the establishment of new charitable projects across the University. In May 2021, the Foundation initiated the new funding applications to all faculties and departments.

After evaluation, 6 new projects were approved and established. Implemented by the Department of Campus Life, Living in China opens to all UNNC staff and students. The project covers a variety of extracurricular activities, which not only strengthen the Chinese culture education for foreign staff and students, but also further promote the integration of different cultures among campus. Student Competition Development Fund is led by NUBS Student Affairs team from the Department of Campus Life, aiming at initiating a systematic mechanism in encouraging students to participate in multi-level competitions, as well as creating a sustainable supporting system for current and prospective students. Rising Star Programme is led by School of Economics, by providing a series of programmes and activities. The programme aims to enhance students’ ability to develop knowledge, skills and competencies and well prepare them for future career development in employment or further studies. Led by Li Dak Sum Incubator, Student Innovation Studio project will support students’ innovation and entrepreneurship capacity building by funding inter-faculty studios under different themes. Implemented by the Library, Music Library aims to bring music to the campus. By introducing high-quality music resources and equipment, organising themed activities and establishing UNNC’s feature collection of music education, this project aims to achieve easy-to-access on and off-line channels of music art for all students and staff, enriching their knowledge base and skills of music appreciation, cultivating a unique campus culture of music art, and further enhancing the University’s culture influence. Fresher Transition Programme is jointly led by Department of Campus Life, Sports Department, Logistic Affairs Centre, and Centre for English Language Education, aiming to teach freshmen key skills and to help them integrating better into campus life and campus environment.
